A specialist team from Ron Hull Demolition, worked through the night to strategically demolish the A630 flyover in Rotherham.
Working to a tight schedule, Ron Hull Demolition Ltd were given just 36 hours to complete the operation, so the busy Centenary Way could be opened ready for the Monday morning rush hour. Working closely with Rotherham Borough Council and the Highways Agency, Ron Hull Demolition's specialist team set about the task on Saturday night.
A major concern for the team was to avoid damage to the road surface, and the first few hours were taken up with getting a protective covering in place. Once the preparation works had been completed, the demolition machines were able to get started. Due to meticulous planning by the Ron Hull Team, progress on the work surpassed expectations. The plan was to remove three sections of the flyover and three supporting piers but the team had so much time in hand that the decision was taken to press on and demolish a fifth section.
With the actual demolition work completed in daylight on Sunday afternoon, it was then a matter of getting the site cleared and ready for re-opening.
The demolition works were completed well inside the programme, without accident or incident and traffic was again flowing on Centenary Way very early on Monday morning.
